Paul Atreides dreamed about Chani on him home world of Caladan. However, when he arrived at Arrakis, the spice covered desert planet which the Emperor had given to his father, political schemes led to the death of his father and forced Paul and Lady Jessica, his mother, into the desert. In the desert, a Fremen tribe rescue Paul and his mother from the desert and they offer the two safe haven. Paul was put into the care of Chani, and at first sight, Paul recognized the young Fremen woman as the girl from his visions. Chani and Paul form a relationship in Sietch Tabr, and within the sietch, Chani gives birth to their first child.

The Fremen viewed Lisan Al Gaib, the one who has came to Dune to transfer their planet into a paradise. Upon the test of proving Paul was the Kwisatz Haderach, Paul entered a spice trace. It was only Chani who could bring Paul back to consciousness. Then, Paul begins to plot to overthrow the Emperor and the House Harkonnen. However, during the battle, Leto I, Paul and Chani’s child, is killed by the Emperor’s troops.

When Paul Muad’Dib (which is Paul’s Fremen name) confronts the Emperor, he marries the daughter of the Emperor, Irulan, and become the new emperor. Chani agreed to the union, but Paul promised that Irulan who only have his name, not his love. Paul promised Chani that only she would he call wife.

It was Irulan who tried to prevent Chani from having Paul’s hire. Irulan fed Chani conceptions, which Chani combated with a dangerous Fremen spice diet. When Chani became pregnant, her pregnancy became accelerated. She gave birth to twins, Leto II and Ghanima, but she lost her life soon after giving birth.

A devastated Paul was confronted by Scytale, a face dancer, who offered to bring Chani back as a ghola, with Paul’s empire as the price. A blind Paul Muad’Dib denied and walked into the desert as a blind Fremen.
